Kip's Barn

Kip's Barn is a picturesque landmark at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology in Ithaca. The small pond and surrounding reeds is a nesting area for Canada geese and lots of small birds. A Red-shouldered Hawk is a regular visitor. This is a plein air painting done mostly on the spot one morning in July 2009.

Buttermilk Falls is a popular waterfalls and swimming spot in Ithaca. Buttermilk Creek comes winding down a spectacular gorge carved by a raging torrent each spring. This watercolor was done on the spot (en plein air in August 2009. The darkest shadows were added at home.
